Hello Fiends! It’s your old friend, Atomic Comic Eric, with a very special item that will be going up for sale on the ghoulishly, ghastly website known as Dave and Adam's Card World.
Cue the “oohs" and “aahs,” because this little piece of comic history deserves it. See, back in 1972, EC held a convention in New York City that would be the first and last of its kind. All the classic EC stars were there, and this booklet (what you see pictured) was handed out with the price of admission.
“Ok, dude. We get it. It’s a program booklet.”
Tut-tut. Not just any booklet! This particular one was owned by Jack “Jaxon” Jackson, arguably one of the first underground comix (yes, with an “X”) artists, who co-founded the Rip Off Press publishing company. Jaxon’s work was highly influenced by the folks at EC and he was even featured in The Life and Legend of Wallace Wood Volume 1 by Bhob Stewart. Jaxon’s picture is presented with the caption “…hanging out with Wally at the 1972 Fan Convention.”
That’s the very convention this book is from. The very same one. This is that
book.
I’ve been an EC addict, myself, for many years. This is one of the coolest pieces that I own, but it’s time to let it find a new home in some other fiendish collection. I purchased this item from a Bill Gaines enthusiast years ago in Portland, Oregon and I’m basing my price off of what I paid for it (of course), the signatures that are in it, and the original owner.
Even if you’re not an EC fan, I think you may find that it’s truly a cool item. Stay safe! Be Well! And check out my forth-coming YouTube channel The Throwaway Gazette, for more comic history, laughs, and…well…that’s it. I guess?
Here's some more pictures for you to check out as well!
